Now we find ourselves in Missouri, and when we moved into our current home, I decided to dedicate our guest bedroom to Palm Beach. If you have ever been to Palm Beach, you know the colors are bright! Lots of pinks, blues, and greens occur naturally in the environment in South Florida, and they definitely occur on the fashions that line Worth Avenue! So these bright colors were my inspiration.
Now keep in mind, we are in a rental house, therefore we can't paint the walls or knock down any walls, or this blog would be even more exciting! Also, this was before I decided to blog my mess making, so I don't have any before pictures. :(
If this looks like a mashup of random furniture, that's because it is! Let's focus on the blue items though shall we? The headboard was an antique headboard from my grandmother's house. It is solid wood, which is such a rarity today! It was stained a light cherry color to begin with, but was pretty roughed up, so it didn't require much sanding. I just used a bit of sandpaper to rough it up in some of the darker areas.
Then I applied Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze spray paint. I think I did 4 coats. When it was dry, I sanded the edges to give it a bit of a driftwood feel. I didn't want it to look like it was just spray painted, even though it was!
Do you see the little table? I picked that up at Goodwill for $4! Can you believe it? It is also solid wood, which is all I try to buy now that I am a grown up and out of college! Regardless, I spray painted and sanded it as well.
Finally, I got this huge mirror from my mom for FREE! Free is even better than $4! Free is where it's at my friends! I don't have a great before picture, however, if you look in the picture below, you can see the frame of the mirror and get somewhat of an idea!
Yes, that is yours truly, and the hubs, the day after we got engaged. Not the point of this picture though! See the gold frame behind our heads??? That is the mirror I got FO FREE!
